Department collects fine of over Rs 100 crore for GST evasion

Bengaluru: In spite of the fact that the central government had hoped to solve all the loopholes in tax collection and ensure that tax payment is made secure, the commercial tax department here has identified that around 3,000 people as high value tax payers have not been remitting Goods and Services Tax (GST) promptly.

The office, which observed this tax evasion, conducted a raid through which it gathered unpaid taxes along with fine of over Rs 100 crore. 

The authorities of the division uncover that out of 40,000 businessmen whose transaction are on the higher side, about 3,000 have not been remitting taxes. The commercial tax department authorities have served notices to them and launched task to collect the taxes due.

In Karnataka, more than seven lakh people have enrolled themselves under GST. The taxes gathered from them happen to be one of the major revenue for the government. 

The department authorities have discovered evasion of about Rs 150 crore as taxes by these individuals in the past three months. The department says that few businessmen and traders have been prompt in submitting form 3B, yet submission of form lR-1 has been irregular.
