The suspension comes as a result of alleged dereliction of duty during the elections.
The incident unfolded when the deputy commissioner organized a press meeting on May 9 to assess the preparedness for the upcoming elections. The staff from the deputy commissioner’s office had contacted Jayanna via phone and requested his presence at the press meeting.
However, Jayanna informed the staff that he could not attend the press meeting as he had to travel to Bengaluru to submit the records of the second Pre-University (PU) examination. This action, leaving the district center without the permission of the district election officer, led to allegations against him.
