Doctors in Gujarat remove an undeveloped embryo from 18-month-old infant's stomach

Doctors at Ahmedabad Civil Hospital in Gujarat were successful in removing an undeveloped embryo weighing around 400 grams from an 18-month-old infant’s stomach.

The infant’s parents hail from Madhya Pradesh and the report states that she has been discharged and is recovering.

Vedika, the 18-month-old baby, started experiencing pain in her stomach three months ago. The parents consulted various doctors in Madhya Pradesh and Rajasthan but all the efforts went to vain as the baby suffered from the pain.

After reading about a similar case on Twitter, the parents traveled to Ahmedabad, hoping their daughter would be treated here properly.

Sonography tests revealed that Vedika had an undeveloped embryo in her stomach, which is a medical condition called, ‘Fetus in Fetu.’

Apparently, this case occurs one in five lakh cases.

Dr. Rakesh Joshi, head of the department of pediatric surgery at Civil hospital, informed that the operation was a complicated one but the baby is now completely healthy and recovering.
