The accused has been identified as  Hameed (35), a resident of Ullal Upanagar in Bengaluru. He used to allegedly smuggle intoxicating substances into the city from other states. Hameed was an associate of notorious rowdy Ullal Karthik.

The accused apparently also spread terror in the area where he lived, following which the locals approached the city’s Police Commissioner with a complaint during a visit after which a team was formed to crack the case.

He evaded arrest for eight years. There were 15 cases against him, including several NDPS Act cases and attempts to murder.

Following a tipoff that he was in Ullal (Bengaluru), a police team led by ACP Krishna Kumar arrested him along with his brother Sadiq (24).
