Dubai: UK woman faces 2-yrs jail for saying ‘F*** you’ to flatmate over WhatsApp

Dubai: How many times have we used a cussed word to describe a day or food or certain people without giving a second thought about it? Well, an incident in Dubai landed a British woman in jail for saying ‘f**k you’ to her Ukrainian flatmate over WhatsApp.

According to Article 373 of the UAE Penal code, saying f**k is considered a crime in Dubai, as the word disgraces the honour of the modesty of a person.

The 31-year-old woman who allegedly made a comment in October 2020 over an argument, is a HR manager from Gloucestershire, UK. Later, she decided to leave UAE and permanently move back to UK after she secured a job there. The woman, however got hauled off a plane and was informed by airport authorities that she couldn’t leave the country as there was a police case registered against her.

She has been detained in Dubai and saddened by her flat mate’s behavior, “I can’t believe what my flatmate has done-she has been so spiteful. I pleaded to withdraw the complaint but she said, This is a criminal case.”
