Speaking on the issue chief secretary TM Vijay Bhaskar informed that the model code of conduct continues to be in force but the ECI has relaxed provisions pertaining to infrastructure projects.

He further added, “We sought the permission of the ECI to resume infrastructure projects, tendering and commissioning of works after elections in the state, the ECI has given us the green signal to resume projects and floating of tenders after the second phase of polling in the state.”

In order to prevent undue influence on voters, the model code does not permit the government to start any project for which work is not already underway. With polling in the state having been completed, however, the government is now free to continue with its projects.

Meanwhile, Chief Minister HD Kumaraswamy has also sought further clarity on the issue from Bhaskar.
