For the past few months, wild tusker attacks have been increasing in the farms of Dhumbettu and adjoining areas. Agricultural produce, worth lakhs of rupees, has been destroyed. Moreover, elephants are frequently seen roaming near human habitations, creating panic among locals.
Anxious farmers had submitted an appeal to the district deputy conservator of forests Dr. Dinesh Kumar about the issue. Responding to the complaint, the officer has called a team from Nagarahole to chase away the pachyderms back to the forests. The DFO also visited the areas affected by the elephant menace.
The officials said that they have decided to survey the surrounding areas with the help of drones. Based on the survey, appropriate action will be taken. The survey is set to begin from Monday, they informed.
