Bengaluru: Over 1.50 crore people lent their voices to Kannada songs at the ‘Koti Kantha Gayana’ programme organized by the Department of Kannada and Culture on Friday.
Kannadigas from 50 nations as well as 29 states in India, participated enthusiastically in the unique singing program organized in preparation for Kannada Rajyotsava 2022.
At the Kanteerava Stadium in Bengaluru, around 50,000 citizens, and students, along with dignitaries chief minister Basavaraj Bommai, former chief minister B S Yediyurappa, ministers Sunil Kumar, R Ashoka, former Union minister Sadananda Gowda among others participated in the event.

Kannada works by noted poets including Rashtrakavi Kuvempu’s anthem “Jaya Bharata Jananiya Tanujathe”, Huilgol Narayana Rao’s “Udayavagali Namma Chaluva Kannadanadu”, Dr. Channaveera Kanavi’s “Vishwa Vividha Vidhya Chetana Sarva Hridaya Sanskari”, Kuvempu’s “Barisu Kannada Dindimava”, Dr. D.S. Karki’s “Hachevu Kannada Deepa”, Dr. D.S. Karki’s “Hacchevu Kannada da Deepa” and Dr. Hamsalekha’s “Huttidare Kannada Nadalli Huttabeku” were sung by crores of voices.
Kannada film industry’s absence felt:
There has been resentment in government circles over the lackluster response from the Kannada film industry to the unique event celebrating the Kannada language and culture.
