70-yo man survives bear attack, walks 2 kms after his eye gouged out

In a shocking incident reported from Uttara Kannada district, a 70-year-old man survived a savage encounter with a wild bear. The man, identified as Vittu Shalake from Maharashtra sustained serious injuries in the attack and is currently receiving treatment at a hospital in Belagavi.

The incident took place when Shalake was passing through the forest while he was on way to Timboli village from Ramnagar. Suddenly, a bear lunged at him, inflicting severe injuries by gouging out one of his eyes and injuring the other. However Shalake displayed immense courage and fought back by shouting and screaming, eventually managing to free himself.

After the bear walked towards the forest, an injured Shalake walked approximately two kilometers until he reached safety despite bleeding profusely. He received immediate medical treatment at the Ramnagar hospital and was later transferred to a hospital in Belagavi for further treatment. The Ramnagar police have taken note of the incident and filed a case.

Meanwhile, the attack created panic among the locals. The forest officials have also pitched in and assessed the situation in the region to initiate preventive measures to protect people from bear attacks.
