The Gruha Jyothi scheme, which completes one year since its launch in August, provides free electricity for up to 200 units per month. Recognizing the needs of tenants who frequently relocate, the government introduced the “de-link” and “re-link” features, offering Aadhaar-linked users the convenience of updating their RR numbers with minimal hassle. As per records, an average of 1,000 consumers have been availing of this facility daily, underscoring its popularity.
The response has been significant, especially within Bengaluru, where 73% of the total users who opted for the “de-link” and “re-link” services are residents. Among the 85,000 beneficiaries, approximately 62,444 consumers under the Bengaluru Electricity Supply Company (BESCOM) have used this service. Meanwhile, Gulbarga Electricity Supply Company (GESCOM) has recorded 6,742 users, Hubli Electricity Supply Company (HESCOM) 5,772 users, and Mangalore Electricity Supply Company (MESCOM) 4,519 users availing the facility.
The initiative has proven beneficial for the scheme, allowing users to continue enjoying uninterrupted free electricity. Government officials anticipate the trend will sustain as tenants increasingly recognize the convenience of re-linking their Aadhaar and RR numbers to suit their living arrangements.
