The incident occurred on October 19 when, allegedly frustrated by repeated unsuccessful poisoning attempts, Pratima and Dileep suffocated Balakrishna to death.
Balakrishna had earlier received treatment at various hospitals due to persistent health issues caused by poison mixed in his food, but he had recovered and returned home.

Bones sent for forensic analysis
Since Balakrishna’s funeral has already taken place, the police retrieved bone samples from his body on October 28 to send to the Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL) for examination. The police expect to receive the forensic report soon, which they hope will provide critical insights into the case.
Community curiosity around police actions
This case has drawn widespread public interest, especially since Pratima’s brother initially brought the murder to light. Both Pratima and Dileep were subsequently arrested. However, the police’s handling of Pratima’s custody has led to various speculations. Unlike Dileep, who was held in police custody for three days for questioning, Pratima was directly presented before the court without a police custody remand.
While Dileep remains in judicial custody, sources indicate that the police may take Pratima into custody soon for a thorough interrogation once preliminary evidence is consolidated. There is also a possibility of questioning both suspects together to unravel the details of the case further, if necessary.
