The fest was flagged off by the Minister for women and child development and the district in-charge minister Dr Jayamala by by unfurling a flag consisting two fish and a symbol of Alupa dynasty who ruled Tulunadu.
A 4-km heritage walk across temples and basadis in Barkur, aimed at informing the tourists about the rich heritage of Barkur was also inaugurated by the minister.
Colorful umbrellas, Kalladka dolls, folk dance and tiger dance teams joined the procession which was also inaugurated on the occasion. The procession began at Simhasanagudde, passed through the main streets of the town and ended at the fort grounds.

Another attraction at the inaugural was a fruit and flower show. The eyes of the visitors were caught by the variety of flowers and topiary including an elephant, a Linga, two fish, and a butterfly made of flowers. a fireworks display was also organised at the venue as part of the inauguration programme.
