Assault on policemen: four arrested

Bengaluru: The Varthur police have arrested four people on the charge of ambushing the policemen. The policemen who were trying to scatter a gathering of individuals, who were gambling inside an government school premises, were assaulted back.

The police have identified the accused persons as Kumar, Sandeep, Murthy and Murali Mohan, all residents of Siddapura. They were slapped cases under Sections 143 (unlawful assembly), 353 (assault or criminal force to deter public servant from discharge of his duty), 504 (intentional insult with intent to provoke breach of peace) of the Indian Penal Code. They were produced before a magistrate who sent them to judicial custody.

Deputy Commissioner of Police (Whitefield) Abdul Ahad said that Basappa Ganegera and Sharana Basappa, attached to Whitefield police station, were on patrol when they got a message about a gathering of individuals gambling inside the premises of a school. The two policemen immediately went to the spot and tried to disperse the group, but the crowd there, manhandled and assaulted the two policemen and chased them away while passers-by stayed quiet observers, the police said.

The duo managed to escape from the aggressors and alarm the police control room.

Extra police staffs were sent to the spot. They managed to arrest four people, who drove the assault, based on the video footage which was recorded by the onlookers.
