Out of the total 27 seats in the council, one seat was vacant. The BJP held 11 seats, the Congress also had 11, and the SDPI had 4. However, following the involvement of Dakshina Kannada MP Capt. Brijesh Chowta and Bantwal MLA Rajesh Naik Ulippadyguttu in the election process, the BJP’s seat count increased to 13.
In a strategic move, the Congress backed Vasu Poojary for the President’s position, while the SDPI supported his candidacy. In return, the Congress extended its support to SDPI’s Munish Ali for the Vice President’s post.
The BJP had fielded A. Govinda Prabhu for the President’s role and Hariprasad for the Vice President’s position, but they were unsuccessful in securing the positions.
