Barcode has already been given to 2000 houses in the Mannagudda ward on a pilot basis. Garbage collection vehicles will scan the barcodes at the houses’ gates on collecting the waste from the house.
A command and control centre is also being set up at a cost of Rs 74 crore to monitor public services more efficiently. The centre will help in monitoring traffic and air quality along with the movements of vehicles used in solid waste management. Buses, ambulances and other public utility vehicles will be GPS enabled linking all their data with the centre.
Additionally, 15 smart poles will be installed at prominent junctures in the city with solar panels powering the lights, traffic signals, public address system, LED display, cameras, wifi on the pole. An SOS button will also be on the pole for citizens in distress to communicate with the authorities.
