A recent survey undertaken by Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike has identified over 400 buildings that are susceptible to collapse.

The survey, to assess the vulnerability of buildings was conducted following the back-to-back collapse of two buildings in Bengaluru recently. A similar exercise was conducted in 2019 and the BBMP had identified 185 buildings to be in bad and dilapidated condition.

Notably, the building that collapsed recently were not on the list of dilapidated structures identified by the civic body in 2019.

According to a DHNS report, the team of engineers identified 404 vulnerable buildings based on appearance and longevity and a structural assessment of these buildings is yet to be conducted. Any further action like the issuance of notice would be initiated after the structural assessment by engineers.
