Beer price hike under discussion: Excise Minister Timmapur clarifies

Mudhol: Excise Minister R.B. Timmapur clarified that there will be no increase in liquor prices. However, a price hike for beer is under discussion.

Speaking to reporters in the city, the minister explained that beer containing 25% or more sugar content is harmful. Hence, discussions are underway to reduce sugar content and increase prices accordingly.

He also mentioned that the government is gathering information about beer prices in other states to decide on appropriate measures. He added, “We have not only considered price hikes but also reduced prices for premium beer. Unfortunately, this has not been widely acknowledged.”
