Vilasini (30) was scheduled for delivery on July 20, as advised by her doctor. Local Asha workers visited her on July 10 to remind her of the due date, but the family forgot it.
On July 25, Vilasini experienced labor pains, and the health department staff rushed to her aid. Despite attempts to call an ambulance, none were available. As vehicles could not reach the doorstep, the health personnel carried her on a stretcher through the rain to reach their auto. However, she gave birth before they could reach the vehicle.
The mother and newborn were immediately attended to and transported to Belthangady Community Hospital via rickshaw. They were later admitted to Mangaluru’s Lady Goschen Hospital for further care. The district health officer confirmed that both mother and child are safe.
