Varija, a government employee, reported the loss of her 24-gram mangalsutra while boarding the bus, prompting her to file a complaint with the Beltangady police.

Acting on a specific tip-off, Sub-Inspector Chandrashekhar and his team apprehended Mohini, alias Marimuthu (35), and Divya, alias Kamachi (30), at the Dharmasthala bus stand in the afternoon on December 20. The thieves were originally from Tamil Nadu. During the interrogation, both individuals confessed to the crime and willingly returned the stolen mangalsutra to the police.

Notably, the duo has a history of involvement in multiple cases filed against them in various police stations. They openly admitted to their participation in theft cases in Mulky and Beltangady.

Subsequently, both accused were presented in front of the magistrate in the evening and have been remanded to judicial custody.
