Belthangady: The much-anticipated third Mahamastakabhisheka is poised to commence in Venoor on Thursday, February 22, heralding the start of an auspicious occasion for devotees.

The event, dedicated to Lord Baahubali Swami, a globally renowned symbol of sacrifice, will witness fervent participation from devotees and visitors alike. Venoor, nestled in the serene foothills of the Western Ghats, is abuzz with preparations for the grand Mastakabhisheka ceremony.

The historic significance of the event dates back centuries, with records indicating that the 35-foot monolithic Baahubali idol was originally installed by Ajila king Thimmannajila in 1604, marking the inception of the revered tradition. Subsequent Mahamastakabhisheka ceremonies were conducted in 1928 and 1956. In the 21st century, the tradition continues with ceremonies held in 2000, 2012, and now, the eagerly awaited third Mahamastakabhisheka. Devotees from across the nation are gearing up to partake in the sacred rituals, which occur once every 12 years.

Venoor is adorned to welcome the Mahamastakabhisheka of the towering 35-foot monolithic Baahubali, situated majestically on the banks of the Falguni river in Venur village. Padmaprasad Ajila, a prominent figure in the Ajila family, has been actively involved in guiding the preparations for this grand event, marking the third Mastakabhisheka of the century.

The festivities commenced with a grand procession on February 21, wherein the revered sages, Reverend 108 Amoghakirti Maharaja and Reverend 108 Sri Amarakeerti Maharaja, were ceremoniously welcomed to Venoor, setting the stage for the upcoming Mahamastakabhisheka.

The ceremony will witness the presence of esteemed dignitaries, including Deputy Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar.

Mahamastakabhisheka

The Mahamastakabhisheka, a nine-day extravaganza, will unfold with splendorous rituals, including the colorful dravya-coating of the towering Baahubali idol.

Preparations are in full swing to accommodate the influx of devotees and dignitaries, ensuring arrangements for food, lodging, and entertainment. The district administration has also taken supplementary measures to facilitate the smooth conduct of the Mahamastakabhisheka, with information disseminated through various channels for the convenience of attendees.
