Bengaluru: 36-year-old sentenced to 5 years behind bars in POCSO case

Bengaluru: A special fast-track court has sentenced a convict to five years in prison for sexually harassing a 5-year-old child.

The convict has been identified as Laxman (36), a resident of Supraja Nagar, Konanakunte.

The five-year-old victim was going to Anganwadi and lived with her parents near the accused’s house. The incident happened on January 13, 2018, after the victim’s mother went to work, leaving the child at the Anganwadi. At 10 am, the accused took the child with him and sexually abused her near a secluded place near the Anganwadi.

The child confided in her mother about the incident and a complaint was lodged with the Konnakunte police station.

Following investigation Laxman, was booked and arrested, and a chargesheet was filed in court.

After examining the evidence, hearing witness testimonies and arguments, Judge K N Roopa held Laxman guilty as charged. The court sentenced Laxman to 5 years rigorous imprisonment and imposed a fine of Rs 50,000. The court also ordered to pay Rs one laksh from DLSA to the aggrieved girl as compensation.
