A case has been registered at the North East Division CEN Police station based on a complaint by the victim, identified as Chatura Rao, a resident of Devanahalli.

According to the complaint, Chatura Rao got a call on August 2 from an unknown person who claimed to be a FedEx representative about a parcel in her name that contained her “Aadhaar number, 5 passports, 5 credit cards, and a laptop.” As this was illegal, she was told that the case had been transferred to the Mumbai Crime Branch police.

The fraudsters then called her posing as police and other investigative personnel and made her download an app. They sought her bank details and also demanded money to “help” her end the case.

Shocked and panicked, Rao transferred Rs 32.35 lakhs from her 2 bank accounts in several transactions. There was no communication after the transfer of the money, following which the victim realized she may have been scammed.
