Justice M. Nagaprasanna of the single-judge bench heard the petition filed by Dr. Prabhakar Bhat Kalladka, seeking to quash the case registered against him. The court has issued an order staying the FIR registered at Srirangapatna Police Station and the ongoing trial in the local JMFC court related to this case.

Senior advocate Arun Shyam, representing Dr. Prabhakar Bhat, argued that the complaint was filed with a delay of two days after the alleged incident, indicating a political motive behind the case. He stated that the police filed the charge sheet without obtaining the court’s permission and that his client, a law-abiding citizen, did not commit the alleged offense. Thus, he requested the court to quash the case, leading to the interim stay.

Background of the Case:

On December 24, 2023, during a public address at the Hanumamale Sankirtana Yatra event organized by the Hindu Jagarana Vedike in Srirangapatna, Mandya district, Dr. Prabhakar Bhat allegedly made derogatory comments about Muslim women, claiming they do not have a permanent husband and have one husband per day, and that Prime Minister Modi gave them a permanent husband. Social activist Najma Nazir filed a complaint against him on December 26, 2023, at the Srirangapatna Police Station.
