Bengaluru: KSDL Officer dies by suicide, cites family issues in death note

In a tragic incident, a purchase department officer of Karnataka Soaps and Detergents Limited (KSDL) died by suicide at his residence in Mahalakshmi Layout on December 28. The deceased, identified as Amruth Shirur (40), reportedly left behind a death note before hanging himself from the ceiling fan in his rented home.

Incident details

The incident came to light when the house owner, Girish, discovered Amruth hanging in his room in the Muneshwara Block area around 9 PM. Amruth had been absent from work that day and was last seen at home around 6 PM. Upon discovering the situation, Girish immediately informed the police. The authorities arrived at the scene, conducted an inspection, and sent the body for a post-mortem examination.

Family and professional background

Originally from Shiralakoppa in Shivamogga district, Amruth had been working as an assistant officer in the KSDL purchase department for 10 years. Recently promoted to a senior position, he was transferred from Shivamogga to Bengaluru about a month and a half ago. He lived alone in a rented house in Mahalakshmi Layout.

Amruth reportedly faced significant personal struggles. He had been estranged from his two wives and children due to family disputes. His first marriage, a love marriage, ended in divorce within a few months. He married a teacher in 2019, but the couple also separated, and their divorce case was under trial.

Contents of the death note

The police found a death note at the scene in which Amruth expressed his despair. He stated, “I could not be a good son to my parents or a good husband to my wife. Nobody is responsible for my death; I am solely responsible. I have failed to do justice to my work and am weary of life.”

No signs of foul play were observed at the scene, and further clarity is awaited following the medical report.

Police investigation

Mahalakshmi Layout Police have registered a case of unnatural death and are conducting an investigation. According to DCP (North Division) Saidulla, all necessary inquiries are being carried out to ascertain the exact circumstances of the incident.
