Bengaluru: KYC scam; Cops help retired Lokayukta staff get back Rs 20 lakh from fraudsters

Bengaluru: A constable from the cybercrime division acted swiftly on a complaint of online fraud and managed to get back Rs 20 lakh stolen by hackers.

A complaint was filed at the cyber crime police station by  G.V. Deshpande, a retired Lokayukta staff on Sunday, July 17.

He claimed that he had lost money after sharing the bank account details with cyber fraud on the pretext of KYC update.

Meanwhile, constable Ashraf Sab Pinjaar, who was on leave, had come to the station for some work. He immediately coordinated with the bank and requested them to freeze the account of the accused.

The nodal officer of the bank was in his hometown Rajasthan but agreed to help. He froze the accused’s account and soon after the money was recovered.
