Bengaluru: Locals allege development activities damaged Ullal Lake

Bengaluru: Residents have alleged that Ullal Lake in Bengaluru has been damaged over the years due to Bangalore Development Authority’s unplanned development activities, encroachment of the lake bed and Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike’s lack of maintenance.

The lake, which seems fully fenced from outside, is partially filled with sewage water and has layers of algae and weed.

A water quality test done under the National Water Quality Monitoring Programme showed the quality of the water is unsatisfactory.

Although BBMP has allotted Rs 5 lakh annually for the maintenance of the lake, the amount is not enough as most of it goes into cleaning works like cutting grass etc.
