Bengaluru: Man found alive at autopsy table

Bengaluru: In a shocking incident in Karnataka, a man declared brain dead after an accident started responding to the treatment and his vitals were normal on March 2, a day after he was rushed to another hospital.

The doctor deputed to conduct the postmortem of the 27-year-old noticed goosebumps and movement of his hands.

The 27-year-old has been identified as Shankar Gombi. He met with an accident in Mahalingapur on February 27, where he was declared brain dead by a private hospital in Belagavi, after keeping him under two-day observation and asked his family to take his body.

Later his body was taken to the Mahalingapur government hospital in Bagalkote on March 1 for post-mortem as his family prepared for Gombi’s funeral.

SS Galgali, the doctor deputed to perform the post-mortem informed that he had seen cut-outs and banners across the town, further adding,” I didn’t expect him to be alive.”

Shankar’s family was told by the private hospital that he would stop breathing once the ventilator support was removed.
