B’luru: Kundapura youth steals motorcycles to fund girlfriend’s eye surgery, arrested

Mahalakshmi Layout police have arrested a Kundapura native for allegedly stealing motorcycles to fund his girlfriend’s eye surgery.

The accused identified as Sachin (28) worked at a factory in the city and lived in a rented house in Kurubarahalli.

Police probing a case of motorcycle theft near Akkamahadevi Park arrested Sachin and recovered one auto-rickshaw and nine motorcycles worth a total of Rs 6.18 lakh from him.

Police investigation revealed that Sachin had been in a relationship with a young woman from Kundapura who had vision problems requiring surgery. In a bid to raise money for her operation, Sachin began stealing motorcycles.

He would identify motorcycles parked near houses and parks during the day and night, break the handle locks, steal them, and sell them through acquaintances to get the money.

A motorcycle was stolen in broad daylight near Akkamahadevi Park in Mahalakshmi Layout. Based on the complaint, police examined the CCTV footage from the area and got a clue about Sachin’s involvement. He was later arrested at Kurubarahalli Circle.

The arrest has led to the solving of nine motorcycle theft cases registered across five police stations in the North Division, according to the police.
