Police said Malleshwaram-resident Sunita Ramprasad (55) was killed by Govindapura residents Imran (32), Venkatesh (30), and Kiran (25). Imran and Venkatesh have been arrested, while main accused Kiran is still on the run, police added.

Police suspect the murder was carried out to loot the money of the victim and are further investigating.

Sunita was unmarried and lived with her relatives in Malleshwaram. She was in the real estate and finance business. As she had difficulty walking, she took help from the accused for helping her move around the city.

Kiran suspected Sunita had lots of money from her finance business and hatched a plan, with the other accused, to kill her. He asked his apartment’s owner to give him the keys to an empty apartment in the same building for showing it to a prospective client.

The accused took Sunita to the apartment on April 1 at around 11 am and smothered her to death. The accused exited the 4th-floor apartment late in the night, police said.

Meanwhile, Sunita’s relatives searched for her everywhere after she did not return home on April 1. After failing to find her anywhere, the uncle filed her missing complaint at the Malleshwaram Police Station on April 4.

The murder came to light on April 5 when the neighbors complained of a foul smell emanating from the apartment. Kiran was missing with the keys and police had to break open the front door and found Sunita’s mortal remains, police said.
