Buddhist monk swindled off Rs 1.97 to online cheating

Bengaluru: In yet another case of cybercrime, a Buddhist monk was swindled off Rs 1.97 crore by a woman he met on Facebook.

In his complaint the victim, Karma Kedup claimed that the woman Roland Michelle posed as a US army staffer and sought funds to help orphans in India. She given gave him a few account numbers to deposit the said amount.

An unsuspecting Kedup deposited funds, which included his earnings of Rs 15 lakh and the rest borrowed from various monks to 22 bank accounts since February 7.

The case is likely to be handed over to CID for further investigation considering the huge amount involved.
