On Monday, October 21, Yogeshwar submitted his resignation letter to Basavaraj Horatti, Chairman of the Karnataka Legislative Council, during a meeting in Hubballi. Yogeshwar had been nominated to the Legislative Council by the BJP.

Yogeshwar was seeking a BJP ticket to contest the by-election for the Channapatna Assembly seat, which fell vacant following the resignation of former Chief Minister H.D. Kumaraswamy. However, due to the BJP’s alliance with the JD(S), the Channapatna seat was allocated to the JD(S) as part of their agreement. This decision left Yogeshwar disgruntled.

Reports suggest that Yogeshwar was offered the chance to contest from Channapatna on a JD(S) ticket, but he refused the offer.

Speaking after his resignation, Yogeshwar confirmed his decision to contest the by-election as an independent candidate. His move sets the stage for a triangular contest in the Channapatna by-election, which has already garnered significant attention.
