After the covid-19 pandemic, the Hajj pilgrimage was allowed to resume, and pilgrims were permitted to choose their boarding centers at their convenience while applying for the Hajj. However, the Indian Haj Committee has canceled several embarkation centers (boarding centers) in various states of the country, including Mangaluru airport.

The cancellation of the Mangaluru embarkation point has caused inconvenience to Hajj pilgrims from Dakshina Kannada, Udupi, Chikkamagaluru, Kodagu, and Hassan districts, who had previously undertaken the pilgrimage through Mangaluru airport. The Indian Haj Committee has advised the pilgrims of these five districts to choose Kannur, Kochi, Bengaluru, or Chennai as the new embarkation point.

The Muslim Central Committee Dakshina Kannada, Udupi districts also submitted a memorandum to A. P. Abdullakutty, the Chairman of the Hajj Committee of India and urging him to consider granting the embarkation point status again.
