District superintendent of police Sivakumar told Udayavani that seven workers have been rescued for the time being. The exact information about the casualties is not known. There is a mining license in the name of Mahendrappa and it is legal, he added.

Villagers hold flash protest:

Some villagers accused that the mining site was being operated without following rules and regulations. They held a flash protest at the site alleging that the illegal mining activities were affecting agricultural yields as well as damaging roads. The crowd dispersed after police intervened.
