Chikkamagaluru: In a heartwarming incident, a daughter who got separated from her parents when she was just 5 years old reunited with her mother, who works as a laborer in an estate at Lokavalli village of Moodigere taluk, after 22 years.

As a 5-year-old, Anjali had gone with an elderly elephant mahout from Kerala and his son 22 years ago. After losing contact with her parents she worked at the Mahout’s home and grew up in Kerala. Years later, she entered into a wedlock with Saji of Nellamani near Calicut and had three children. But, Anjali hoped to find her parents one day.

Meanwhile, Anjali’s parents Chaitra and Kalimuthu of Tamilnadu origin, who were were working as laborers in an estate at Mutthigepura village of the district 22 years ago, had searched for their lost daughter to no avail. As the search did not yield any result, the poor couple decided to keep mum about losing Anjali and went about their daily wage work. They had almost lost all hopes of ever finding their daughter.

Recently, Anjali met Mustafa of Mangaluru origin who had been to Kerala. She requested his help to trace her parents who lived somewhere in Moodigere.

Mustafa contacted Fish Monu, president of a social organization in Moodigere, and told him about Anjali’s request. After much effort and help from his acquaintance Dawood, Fish Monu came to know about Chaitra living and working at an estate in Lokavalli village. They met her and confirmed that she was the same person Anjali was looking for.

They relayed the good news to Anjali who was ecstatic to finally find her mother, alive and well.

On Monday, Anjali along with her husband arrived from Calicut. In a happy reunion, Anjali finally hugged her mother Chaitra in Mudigere after a long wait of 22 years. An emotional Anjali thanked the people who were instrumental in reuniting the family.
