Coastal security personnel block boat service near Talapady after people cross Kerala border

Mangaluru: City Police Commissioner Dr P S Harsha has been directed coastal security personnel to block the boat service near Talapady after reports emerged the Kasarogod people were using boats to cross over to Dakshina Kannada via Talapady river, informed Dakshina Kannada District in-charge Minister Kota Srinivas Poojary.

District Commissioner Sindhu Roopesh had closed its borders with Kerala and totally suspended vehicular movement including for medical emergencies following the rise in positive Coronavirus cases in the neighboring Kasargod district. However, Now the people living in Talapady and surrounding areas alleged that the government has failed to monitor people using boats to cross over to Dakshina Kannada via Talapady river.

Srinivas on Sunday, April 5 after receiving some complaints about the people crossing the borders via boat directed Mangaluru police commissioner to look into the issue.

Speaking with this regard, Srinivas said, “Permission for the deep sea fishing will be given after review the situation in the district after the lockdown is lifted because there are chances that Kasaragod people might enter the district using boats.”

There are more that than 150 fishermen in Udyavar seashore in Manjeshwar which is just 800 meters away from the Kerala-Karnataka border indulged in fishing there are chances of these people entering Karnataka using a boat, informed sources.
