Chandan Das, a jeweller in the Bengali town of Budge Budge in the South 24 Parganas District, claims to produce bespoke designer items of any kind. So when a local businessman approached him with a request, he couldn’t say no and constructed a golden mask for him in less than 15 days. The 108-gram mask set him back Rs 5.70 lakhs. The businessman wanted to show off his new acquisition, so he wore it during Kolkata’s Durga Puja celebrations.

However, he had to quickly stow it away in his pocket after receiving some inquisitive looks from those around him. According to the Bengali daily Anandabazar Patrika, the businessman enjoys wearing jewellery. The man’s love of gold is evident in the several chains on his neck, several rings on both hands, and a bracelet on one of his wrists. The gold mask, on the other hand, may have been too much, as it now lives in a locker.

Below is how the internet reacted.
