Dasara festival: KSRTC earns revenue of Rs 3.27 crore

Mangaluru: KSRTC, which had suffered much revenue loss due to incessant rains in Karavali and Kodagu districts and also due to the halt on vehicular movement along the Shiradi and Sampaje Ghat roads is now slowly recovering. During the Dasara festival on October 21-22, KSRTC division at Mangaluru and Puttur have earned a revenue almost Rs 3.27 crore.

Navaratri festival is specially celebrated with much pomp and gaiety in Karavali and those who are in other cities have an emotional attachment to celebrate the festival with their families. In this backdrop, most of them prefer to return back to Karavali to celebrate the festival.

More density

Most of the people were hesitant to travel back to their hometowns on their own vehicles even though the Charmadi, Shiradi and Sampaje Ghat road were opened for traffic towards Mangaluru, Bengaluru and Mysuru. Due to this reason, on the occasion of the festival, the bus density had increased considerably in comparison to normal days.

Every day, more than 350 buses travel from Mangaluru division (Mangaluru-3, Kundapur and Udupi). Similarly, more than 560 buses travel from Puttur division (Puttur, BC road, Dharmasthala, Madikeri and Sullia) and from both the divisions, closely Rs 1 crore in revenue is generated daily on n normal days. But, on the occasion of Dasara, Puttur division and Mangaluru division earned a revenue Rs 1.42 crore and Rs 1.85 crore respectively.

Additional Buses Operated

Daily, 70 and 55 buses travel from Mangaluru division to Bengaluru and Mysuru (via Madikeri) respectively. In the backdrop of Dasara, KSRTC deployed additional buses. In them, 60 additional buses operated towards Bengaluru, Mysuru and Hubballi on October 21-22nd.

State KSRTC revenue Rs 18.26 crore

State KSRTC earned revenue of RS 18.26 crore in a single day on Navaratri Festival day on October 22nd. This revenue is the highest revenue gained by the corporation in a single day in the current year. Because of festival, KSRTC had deployed additional 2,500 buses from various other locations.

“Since there was a festival, additional buses were operating from KSRTC division of Bengaluru, Hubballi and Mysuru. Mangaluru, Udupi KSRTC divisions have earned additional revenue in comparison to normal days,” said Deepak Kumar, KSRTC divisional controller, Mangaluru
