Mumbai: Soon after his deputy, Ajit Pawar resigned from the post, Maharashtra CM Devendra Fadnavis addressing the media tendered his resignation admitting that his party did not have numbers to form the government.

The resignation came after a meeting between Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah, the two top leaders of the BJP, right after the Supreme Court ordered Mr Fadnavis to face a trust vote.

“In elections, clear majority was given to Mahayuti and BJP got maximum 105 seats. We contested with Shiv Sena, but this mandate was for BJP because BJP won 70 percent seats out of all seats we contested,” Fadnavis said.

Calling the alliance of Sena-NCP-Cong a three-wheel govt, Fadnavis said that he and his group of MLAs will serve as a constructive opposition and stressed that the alliance will crumble under its own pressure.
