Disruption of prayer meet: Hindutva activists file counter complaint alleging assault by Dalit Christian family

Belagavi: Members of Hindutva group have registered a counter complaint with Belagavi police accusing members of a Dalit Christian family of assaulting them.

On December 29, members of Hindutva groups had barged into the residence of Pastor Akshaykumar Karaganvi, a converted Dalit Christian, at Ghataprabha here over allegations of converting their neighbours to Christianity.

Akshay’s family, in their complaint said that Hindutva activists barged into their house while they were having a prayer and verbally abused and assaulted five persons. The activists it is alleged manhandled the women members and even snatched a gold chain of one of the women.

Acting on the complaint police registered an FIR against seven persons for unlawful assembly, rioting, wrongful restraint, outraging the modesty of woman, trespassing and criminal intimidation, among others.

However, Hindutva activists too registered a counter complaint alleging that the family assaulted them when they arrived at their residence, raising allegations of conversions.

“A complaint as well as a counter-complaint has been filed and investigation is underway. The facts of the case are being ascertained. No arrests have been made in the case so far,” Belagavi Superintendent of Police Laxman Nimbargi was quoted speaking to The Print.
