DK: Public outcry over transfer of  Police Commissioner Kuldeep Kumar 

Several social workers, political figures, and members of the public have taken to social media platforms to voice their strong opposition to the government’s recent decision to transfer Police Commissioner Kuldeep Kumar R Jain.

The move has drawn attention to the Commissioner’s commendable efforts to combat illegal activities such as drug trade and unauthorized sand mining, while also maintaining communal harmony in the region.

Commissioner Kuldeep Kumar R had also initiated the “Drugs Free Mangalore” campaign. This multifaceted program involved raising awareness in schools and colleges, counseling for former drug addicts, and conducting extensive operations to apprehend drug peddlers.

Notably, in the past five months alone, the police have arrested 65 drug peddlers, including a Nigerian woman believed to be a key player in the drug trade across Bangalore. Additionally, over 200 individuals have been apprehended for drug consumption, encompassing substances such as marijuana. Furthermore, the police have cracked down on the illegal sale of e-cigarettes, foreign cigarettes, and ganja-laced chocolates, taking strict measures against those involved.

The police under Kuldeep Kumar R’s leadership did not shy away from pursuing individuals with long-standing arrest warrants. As a result, 34 individuals implicated in serious cases, some of whom had evaded capture for several years, were successfully apprehended by the Mangalore Police Commissionerate. This proactive approach aimed to ensure justice for the victims by closely monitoring cases as they went to trial, a strategy facilitated through regular meetings at the Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) level.

Kuldeep Kumar R’s commitment to fostering community-friendly policing was evident in various initiatives undertaken during his tenure. Extensive operations were conducted to combat matka gambling and the illicit sand mining trade, further reinforcing the commitment to public safety.

Addressing the persistent issue of traffic problems in the region, the Commissioner initiated several measures, including “Traffic Contact Day” at the police station level, the introduction of a QR code feedback system for evaluating police station responses, and a helpline for citizens to seek information on police station feedback. Moreover, the police took proactive measures to enforce traffic rules rigorously, leading to the submission of a proposal for the suspension of driving licenses for 897 motorists and riders until a specific date. Conductor and passenger safety on buses was also a priority, and actions were taken against individuals standing on the footboards of buses.

The demand for the withdrawal of his transfer order remains strong, with many asserting that his departure would undermine the progress made in maintaining law and order in Mangaluru.
