Drivers injured in head-on collision between 2 KSRTC buses on Charmadi ghat

Kottigehara: Two KSRTC buses collided head-on on the Charmadi Ghat road on Friday, causing serious injuries to the legs of both bus drivers.

The impact of the collision left the fronts of both buses severely crushed. The injured drivers have been rushed to a hospital in Mangaluru for medical treatment.

Fortunately, the approximately 80 passengers on board both buses managed to escape unharmed, averting further casualties. However, the accident resulted in a traffic jam spanning several kilometers along Charmadi Ghat, leaving motorists stranded and struggling to navigate through the area.

Some bus passengers reportedly trudged 10 kilometers on foot to reach Kottigehara.

The Charmadi Ghati region is particularly susceptible to heavy fog during the rainy season, exacerbating the difficulties faced by motorists. Furthermore, the ongoing construction work at the site where the road collapsed in 2019 remains unfinished, compounding the existing challenges in the area, locals alleged.
