Education department renamed as Department of School Education and Literacy

The Karnataka government on Friday passed an order renaming the Department of Primary and Secondary Education as the Department of School Education and Literacy with immediate effect.

The decision was taken after consulting with experts and per the guidelines of the National Education Policy, 2020, the order stated.

Education Minister BC Nagesh in a tweet said that education up to Class 12 is considered under school education in several states in India and thus the decision for the name change.
