On Feb 15, 2019 the woman had reportedly gone to the pub with three of her friends. She alleged that she ordered a flame-based drink (Sambuca Shots) at the suggestion of the staffer at the pub. When the drinks arrived it was poured into her mouth.

According to the woman, she suffered burn injuries in her mouth and was rushed to the hospital by her friends and a pub staffer. Claiming that the accident took place owing to the negligence of the pub staffer, the woman moved the Bengaluru consumer court in November 2019 and sought a compensation of Rs 20 lakh towards the medical expenses and trauma suffered by her.

The lawyer, representing the pub argued that the woman was falsely claiming the pub staff had suggested she order the Sambuca shots. The woman suffered burn injuries while consuming the drink ordered by her and no staffer was involved in the incident, the lawyer said.

Based on the documentary evidence of the medical records and treatment details of the woman, the court on October 1 ordered the pub to pay Rs 74,000 compensation to the woman.
