Karkala: Hundreds of wooden logs worth crores were unearthed by forest officials at the property of a Karkala taluk panchayat member at Kopparagundi on Sunday, February 16. As more and more logs were being found, the officials decided to stop the digging and resume it the next day. It is alleged that the taluk panchayat member had been involved in illegal logging in the forest around Hebri with a gang from the surrounding areas. Two years ago a case was filed in the Hebri forest department against the taluk panchayat member and he was fined Rs 1.5 lakhs for it. The bust of hidden wooden logs was carried out by range forest officer Muniraj.
