According to Dr. P K Mishra, professor in the Chemical Engineering department in IIT BHU, Varanasi said that due lack of industrial waste polluting the water, the river is running clean.

He said, “One-tenth of the pollution in Ganga river comes from industries. As industries are shut due to lockdown, situation has become better. We have seen 40-50 per cent improvement in the Ganga. It is a significant development,” Mishra told news agency ANI. With rainfall on March 15 and 16, the Ganga’s water level has also increased.

“1/10th of the pollution in Ganga river comes from industries. As industries are shut due to lockdown, the situation has become better. We have seen 40-50 per cent improvement in the Ganga. It is a significant development,” he added.

Even River Yamuna is now running clear as earlier due to industrialization and the river was polluted. River Yamuna’s length passes in Delhi due to which the river was filled with sewage and other wastes. But now after decades the river is clean and pure
