After understanding what Dharma is, it is equally important to understand what Adharma is. Following the explanation that “Performing one’s duties as worship of God is the highest Dharma,” comes the statement, “That which is against this is Adharma.”

Neglecting to perform one’s assigned duties with devotion or worship of God is considered Adharma. The crucial factor is whether the action aligns with God’s will or not.

Here, God’s will is paramount. Some actions are neither prescribed (vihita) nor prohibited; they fall into a neutral category. If these actions are in alignment with God’s will, they should be considered Dharma.

Arjuna, at one point, hesitates to strike down his relatives in battle. However, Shri Krishna tells him, “I have already slain them all. You only need to strike” (Mayahatan).

In this context, what Arjuna’s mind thinks is not important; what matters is the will of the Lord. Hence, it is said, “Dharmasya Prabhuh Achyutah.”
