The LKG student was suffering from fever since a week. Although she was treated at many hospitals, it turned out to be futile. Her condition worsened on Tuesday and she breathed her last at a private hospital in Mangaluru.

Locals suspect that her death is due to dengue, but the officials from the health department have denied this claim. “The death of the girl is not because of dengue, but because of acute fever,” informed Dr Naveen Chandra, District Malaria Control officer.

Already, three youth from Tota Bengre have been admitted into hospitals due to fever. Locals alleged that the anchored fishing boats are collecting rain water and thus breeding mosquitos.
