Bengaluru: In a suspected case of  Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder (OCD), a woman in Bengaluru allegedly washed her husband’s laptop and mobile using detergent. Fed up with his wife’s extreme hygiene habits, the husband now wants a divorce.

Kiran and Asha (Names changed) were residents of RT Nagar in Bengaluru and had got married in 2009. The couple moved to England soon after their marriage and Kiran was pleased with Asha keeping their house neat and clean.

But things started to change after their first child was born two years later. Kiran was forced to clean his shoes and clothes immediately after coming from the office.

The couple then took family counselling after coming back from England, things improved and they were blessed with their second son.

However, the Covid-19 outbreak worsened the situation and Asha began washing and sanitising everything in the house.

As Kiran was working from home during the lockdown, Asha also washed his laptop and phone with detergent. Kiran claimed that she bathes more than six times a day and even has one exclusive soap to clean her bathing soap.

Also, when Asha’s mother passed away last year following prolonged illness, she forced her husband and children to stay out of home and went on a deep-cleaning spree for 30 days.

She also forced her children to wash their school uniforms, shoes and bags after they returned home every day. Kiran could not take it anymore and moved out of the house.

Three counselling sessions were conducted but they were of no use. The counsellor suspected it to be a case of extreme OCD and suggested Asha to seek help, but she said she was fine and termed her hygiene habits ‘normal’.

While Kiran is considering divorce, Asha is expected to file a complaint of harassment against him over describing her hygiene habits as abnormal behaviour.
