Bengaluru: BJP National General Secretary C.T. Ravi, on Wednesday, welcomed the central government’s decision to ban the Popular Front of India (PFI) and its affiliates “for supporting ISIS-type militancy, and fostering insecurity, civil war, and sedition within the country.”

Ravi further said that the government has done its part, but that is not enough. Society also needs to be careful so as not to let “subversive and divisive organizations” grow.

“No political party should do politics around the ban with a view to appeasement and immediate political gains,” he said.

After the sudden ban, “there is a possibility of indulging in provocative, anti-national activities. If any such incidents come to notice, I request everyone to immediately inform the police and join hands with the law to avoid any further problems,” Ravi said.

In a notification issued late Tuesday night, the Union Home Ministry imposed a 5-year ban on PFI. “The central government is of the opinion that the PFI and its affiliates have been involved in subversive activities, thereby disturbing public order and undermining constitutional set up of the country and encouraging and enforcing a terror-based regressive regime,” it said.
