Heavy rain in rural areas; house inundated, damage

Ullal: Heavy rains and strong winds reported from Ullal, Mudipu and surrounding areas created artificial floods which inundated houses and shops here. Besides, a compound wall and hill have collapsed damaging two houses.

A house belonging to Sipriyan D’Souza ay Dasaramule in Konaje was damaged after the compound wall above the house collapsed on to the house, while a house belonging to Gratien Coutinho at Kambla Padavu in Fajir suffered damage after the hill behind the house collapsed on the house.

Artificial flooding in Mudipu

The rains created an artificial flood in Mudipu area and the house belonging to SK Khader near Sambartota Masjid was inundated in the middle of the night causing the family therein to spend the night shadowed by fear. The artificial flood at Mudipinnar temple inundated the house of Praveen D’Souza and two other houses and caused problem to the locals. The local development works, man-made compound wall have led to the problem and since Infosys is located on a higher area, the water left from there flows down with greater force and creates the problem. Along with Sambartota, compound wall of Infosys has collapsed at three other places. Artificial flooding was also faced in Navagrama and caused problem to the residents there.

MLA visits affected areas

MLA U T Khader visited the houses affected by the artificial flooding located at Kamblapadavu in Mudipu which falls within Mangaluru Legislative Assembly Constituency. On the occasion, the MLA order the tahsildar to create a team made of the tahsildar, local representatives of the people, PWD officials, Mescom officials and Infosys officials, carryout inspection, call a meeting soon and provide permanent solution.

Thokkottu junction inundated

The incessant rain since Tuesday morning inundated Thokkottu junction with water flooding into more than five shops located there. It is worth noting that artificial flooding has been occurring here since three years leading to water entering into shops and causing damage. Water has entered into hotel, restaurant, clothes shop, tailor shop and electrical shop causing damage.

Water level at Gurpur River rises

Gurpur: The torrential rains since two days has increased the water level at Gurpur Phalguni river causing a fear of possible flooding of the areas lying along the river’s banks. With the increase in rain intensity, water flowed on the road itself causing problem to motorists. In that too, since the NH 169 is narrow and pot-hole ridden, the rain combined with the flow of water on the road caused, both danger and difficulty to vehicle users. The sudden rain and the spontaneous rise in the water level, the nearby areas including Gurpur, Kukkudakatte and other villages along the river banks are in the fear of possible flooding.  In the same way, the water level has risen in Sadhuru area of Malali and is in the low lying areas.
